The name of the cuvee "Grand Mechant Loup" is a word play: "loup" means "wolf" in French. Pic Saint Loup is the name of the wine appellation, and it comes from the eponym mountain which dominates the terroir and influences the climate. Le Grand Mechant Loup in French, translates to "The Big Bad Wolf" in English. Originating from the top Cru of Pic Saint Loup (Appilation d'Origine Protegee) in the famous Languedoc-Roussillon region, the wine is made from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre grapes, a combination of grapes often refered to as "GSM".
Intense Ruby colour with purple hues, the nose envokes scents of Blackberry, cooked cherry, leather and chocolate, that carries over to the palate with a hint of smoke, plum and oak that is balanced with mild tannins, acidity and a soft mouth feel. Fully bodied at 14% alcohol, the finish is complex and medium long.
